Buñuel and the Dreams of Desire, the graphic novel published by Reservoir Books, brings together screenwriters Esteve Soler and Óscar Arce with illustrator Fermín Solís to immerse readers in the creative process behind Luis Buñuel’s iconic film Belle de Jour. More than a behind-the-scenes account, this comic depicts the deep collaboration between Buñuel and screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière while offering an intimate look into the Aragonese filmmaker’s insecurities, obsessions, and moments of genius during a crucial period in his career.

 

 

The Dream-Makers Behind the Story

Fermín Solís, born in Cáceres in 1972, is a celebrated Spanish cartoonist and illustrator. His best-known work, Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, was a finalist for Spain’s National Comic Award and adapted into an animated film in 2019. Solís has demonstrated remarkable versatility, creating both adult graphic novels and children’s literature.

 

Esteve Soler is a screenwriter and director known for his provocative and innovative approach to storytelling.

 

Óscar Arce, director of the Luis Buñuel Film Institute, brings a unique perspective to the project, blending his deep cinematic knowledge with a passion for graphic narrative. Together, they’ve created a work that transcends genres and formats, offering a rich and multifaceted experience.
