This volume presents the cinematic screenplay Là-bas, written by Luis Buñuel and Jean-Claude Carrière, based on the novel of the same name by the French writer J.-K. Huysmans. Conceived as an ambitious film project, the script explores themes of mysticism, decadence, faith, and the darker impulses of the human spirit—subjects that deeply fascinated both Huysmans and Buñuel.

Though never realized as a finished film, the screenplay reveals Buñuel’s continuing interest in religion, ritual, and the contradictions of belief, expressed through the sharp irony and surreal imagination that define his work.

The publication is enriched with additional texts by Pedro Christian García Buñuel, Jean-Claude Carrière, and Luis Ballabriga Pina, offering context and reflection on the origins and significance of the project. The edition also features illustrations by Jean-Claude Carrière, Christian Garnier, José Hernández, and Víctor M. Lahuerta, along with photographs from the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, creating a richly layered exploration of this remarkable and little-known Buñuel screenplay.
